Clarkdale was built in 1912 as William A. Clark's company smelter town, and it was designed from the ground up -- an early planned community that got called "one of the most modern mining towns in the world" when it opened. What is left of that is the street grid, the older housing stock and a deliberate layout that a century has not rearranged. About 4,400 people live here today, and the town is now largely a retirement and arts community.

That combination is a specific cleaning profile. Geography makes Clarkdale easy for us: four miles from Cottonwood in one direction and four miles from Jerome in the other, which puts it on the same run as the busiest part of our valley route rather than off on its own.
