Camp Verde is the largest incorporated town in the Verde Valley -- about 12,100 residents, more than Sedona and more than Cottonwood -- and most people driving up from Phoenix meet the valley here first. I-17 runs straight through it with three exits, 285, 287 and 289, and the town spreads roughly eight miles west of the freeway and ten miles east, which is a lot of ground for a place that size.
