Glen Haven is the closest thing this market has to a pure cabin canyon. It sits at 7,231 feet in Larimer County, inside Roosevelt National Forest on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park, reached from Estes Park by heading northeast on Larimer County Road 43 -- Devils Gulch Road. Fewer than two hundred people are here, and the housing is second homes and rentals almost end to end.

It was laid out as a summer resort in 1903 by the Boulder Presbytery, on ground where the Knapp family had run a sawmill in the 1890s before moving to the present site in 1897. The general store opened in 1921 and is still the center of the place. The Homestead opened as a hotel in 1938 and is now the Inn at Glen Haven. In September 2013 the floods took roughly 80 percent of downtown Glen Haven and cut road access on both sides of the community; the road reopened that December and the village rebuilt itself. People here do not need reminding of any of that, and we are not going to make a sales pitch out of it -- but you cannot describe this place honestly without it.
