The thing to understand about cleaning in Mesa is that Mesa runs its own street grid, unlike the rest of the metro. Center Street bisects the city into East Mesa and West Mesa, and those are places people say out loud, not compass directions. The city stretches about eighteen miles from Price Road in the west to Meridian Road in the east, so a west Mesa job and an east Mesa job are genuinely two different routes. The two halves also clean differently, because they were built decades apart. West Mesa is older stock, seventies through nineties -- Dobson Ranch, the planned community that went up on the old Dobson homestead between 1973 and 1999 and still has its own library branch, and the Mesa Riverview retail corridor near Loop 202 and Dobson Road. Those houses have smaller bathrooms, more carpet and more original tile and grout, and the grout is usually where the work is. East Mesa is the newer side, out past Superstition Springs Center and the business park, toward Red Mountain Park and Falcon Field -- more bathrooms, more glass, more hard floor, and the side that abuts Gilbert's northeast corner. Downtown Mesa sits between them with the Mesa Arts Center, the Arizona Museum of Natural History and the i.d.e.a. Museum, and about four miles of Valley Metro light rail running through it, which is a transit fact Gilbert simply does not have.

The desert treats both halves the same way.
